While Battlefield 6 is all the rage at the moment, it's worth remembering that Call of Duty is still on the horizon, with Black Ops 7 set to release on November 14.

In the lead-up to its launch, Treyarch and Activision have made a number of gutsy calls, likely in an attempt to sway jaded fans back in their direction, including word that SBMM will not be a major factor in multiplayer matchmaking and that those goofy skins and crossovers that plagued Black Ops 6 won't be around come BO7.

Now, Call of Duty has outlined Black Ops 7's Season 1 roadmap, and if it wasn't already abundantly clear that COD means business, it is now.

First things first, yes, Nuketown will be coming to Black Ops 7. No, it won't be at launch. Instead, you'll have to wait until November 20, for whatever reason.

That same post also detailed the 18 multiplayer maps that will be there at launch, including the return of a fan favorite in Hijacked. The post essentially corroborates what had been previously rumored — that Black Ops 7 would have some rather hefty initial seasons as Treyarch reportedly "pulled" some of Black Ops 6's content in order to beef up the early goings of this new title.

Which is to say, if that's what Season 1 of Black Ops 7 looks like, then Season 2-4, which are reportedly supposed to be as beefy, should be a treat.

Overload

A new mode for Call of Duty, Overload has teams fighting to posses an "Overload Device." A 6v6 mode with respawns, Overload begins with players rushing to grab the Overload Device. Once they have it, the team possessing it must protect the carrier as they attempt to place it at a designated zone near the opposing side's spawn point.

The device is always marked on the HUD and Tac-Map, and the player holding the device gets a bonus in the form of personal radar to see where people are.

Team Deathmatch

Kill enemies to score points until the limit is reached. You know what to expect. Team Deathmatch is also available in the beta.

Domination

Teams capture, hold, and defend objectives. Also available in the beta.

Search and Destroy

Teams try to detonate and defuse bombs. There are no respawns.

Kill Confirmed

Players must recover dog tags to score points. This mode will be available in the beta.

Free-For-All

Players must defeat enemies to rack up points. This is basically Team Deathmatch with no teams.

Hardpoint

Teams capture and hold a designated Hardpoint to earn score. This mode will be available in the beta.

Gunfight

Players must take down enemies using pre-determined classes. There is no respawning.

Kill Order

Players must take down the enemy High Value Target (HVT) while keeping their own HVT alive.

Control

Teams take turns attacking and defending zones with a limited number of lives per round.

Skirmish

Skirmish is Call of Duty's large-scale mode, and it's coming back for Black Ops 7. This is a 20v20 mode featuring big maps and new ways to move around like wingsuits and grappling hooks, along with vehicles.

Training Course

A tutorial of sorts, Training Course is a beginner-themed mode that teaches players the basics. The mode also helps players get up to speed with some of Black Ops 7's new mechanics, like wall-jumping. This mode will be available in the beta.

Private matches

Black Ops 7 also supports private matches, allowing players to create their own games with their own custom rules. Players can set up private matches with other humans or bots.

Mastering Movement

One of Black Ops 7’s biggest additions is a new iteration on last year's Omni-movement, with that feature going even further this year. Every operator is now generally faster, and more than that, a wall jump has been added. It’s crucial to come to terms with this new mobility if you hope to improve. Try to jump in and use it as much as possible, to get to terms with how it works. Just find a surface you can jump off of and jump up. This can both make you harder to shoot, but also get to new vantage points. Get to terms with this movement tech, and you’ll already be ahead of a lot of players.

Turn Off Dive

This one is for controller players. In Black Ops 7, there are a couple of features tied to the crouch button that you can weave into your gameplay. However, in our experience, the dive is not particularly useful, and you may want to turn it off so you don’t accidentally activate it. While usable in niche situations, the action launches you forward and leaves you prone on the ground, which is a death sentence in many fights.

To turn it off, go to Settings and then Controller settings. Once there, tab over to Movement. Then scroll down to Movement Behaviors and the Slide/Dive Behavior setting. Set that to ‘Slide only’. This will ensure you never dive, allowing you to slide with no fear.

Use The M15 Mod 0

This is merely a suggestion, but we’ve become quite partial to the ‘default’ gun Black Ops 7 offers. The M15 Mod 0 is a really solid AR that performs well at most distances and is an excellent all-rounder. It is very good at mid-range, and we’ve even had moderate success at long range when pressuring sniper players.

Of course, use what weapon you’re best with. If you’re a crackshot, a sniper might be better, or if you’re all about running in and getting close, you might have more success with an SMG. However, for getting your legs under you, the M15 is an excellent place to start.

Level Up One Gun At A Time

Piggybacking off the back of the previous suggestion, we’d suggest sticking to one gun to level up at a time. The more you play with a gun, the more attachments you’ll unlock. This can drastically improve your performance as you begin to modify your weapon to suit your playstyle. To continue from the previous point, for example, we’ve had a lot of success building into Bullet Velocity for the M15. However, once you’ve completed the track on a weapon, if you’re focused on purely leveling up as efficiently as possible, try pivoting to a new weapon and shake up your playstyle.

Use Stimshots

Of course, you’re free to change your loadout to whatever you think is best, but Stimshots are an excellent option to bring along with you. While it takes up your tactical slot, meaning you might have less utility, its ability to keep you in a fight is unmatched. When used, these immediately heal you, meaning that even mid-fight, you can use them after securing a kill and then fighting someone new.

Unfortunately, you will have to reach level 17 before you can use it, but once you do, we highly recommend using it often in matches.
Understand Specialties

Black Ops 7 brings in specialties, and they are certainly worth knowing about. Once you're able to edit loadouts at Level 4, you can select three perks. Depending on the combination of perks you use, you can get extra bonuses. There are three combat specialty categories that perks are divided into, be it Recon, Enforcer, or Specialist. Depending on whether you have two or even three perks of the same family, you'll get a bonus.

For example, if you use three Enforcer perks, you will get a passive buff where, after every kill, you gain a short buff to movement speed and regen speed. It's definitely trying to make use of these where possible, as, as long as you like the perks, it's just a free buff to your play.
